Abdullah Al Salem Cultural Centre

50+ Visitor Interactives

22,000 square metres, 800 exhibits
23 galleries, 13-hectare site, 6 buildings,
1 colossal project.

The Challenge

The new Abdullah Al-Salem Cultural Centre is a 13-hectare site with a total exhibit area of 22,000 m2 making it one of the largest museum projects in the world. Part of a world class museum district within Kuwait, AASCC consists of 6 museums, fine arts centre, theatre, and public spaces including outdoor exhibits, as well as cafes and restaurants. We were trusted with both the challenge and the exciting potential of delivering all the digital interactives in the natural history museum... in little over one year.

“Working tirelessly with a vast network of curators, researchers, writers, exhibition designers, hardware and setworks contractors, we were able to coordinate and successfully deliver over 50 digital visitor exhibits.”

The Solution

The sheer scale, scope and variety of the project within a relatively short time frame certainly energised and demanded the best across our creative, technical and management teams. Working tirelessly with a vast network of curators, researchers, writers, exhibition designers, hardware and setworks contractors, we were able to coordinate and successfully deliver over 50 digital visitor exhibits. These ranged from informative kiosks and game like experiences, to digital-mechanical interactives and advanced technology solutions involving augmented reality, live action tracking, RFID, multi-touch and gesture control. Their subjects were also extremely varied, so our designs were all under pinned by a clear understanding of the messaging, objectives and audience.

The Outcomes

This was a monumental project and an immense undertaking by any measure. By capitalising on our extensive experience in the museum sector and our deep understanding of visitor interactions, we were able to not only over come the inevitable obstacles along the way, but we actually thrived on the demanding task in hand. The result is a significant body of creative digital work that will be enjoyed by a new but important audience in the Middle East for years to come.
